Application effections of ethephon on crops

1. Application of ethephon on cotton.
Mix 100-150 ml of ethephon with 30 kilograms of water per mu, and spray it on green and late-maturing cotton fields about 20 days before frost.  It can increase pre-frost flowers by about 70%. Spraying unopened cotton bolls in vitro can also achieve better results.

2. Application of ethephon on corn.
At the end of the corn heart leaf stage, spraying the corn field with 50 ml of 40% ethephon per acre mixed with 15 kg of water can reduce the plant height about 25 cm, make the stem nodes thicker, increase the rate of double ears, enhance resistance to lodging, and reduce baldness. The tips are reduced, the lateral roots are increased, the tassel neck is short, and the ripen period can be advanced by 3-5 days.

3. Application of ethephon on persimmons.
Spray the persimmons with an ethephon aqueous solution of a concentration of 750-1000 ml/L during the yellow ripening stage or dip the persimmons in an ethephon aqueous solution of a concentration of 2000 ml/L after picking.       The persimmons can be removed after treatment at 22-26°C for 2-4 days.

4.Application of ethephon on tomatoes.
Pick the fruits at the color-changing stage and soak them in 2000-4000 ml/L ethephon aqueous solution for one minute, and ripen them in an environment of 20-25°C.
They will turn red and mature in 2-3 days.   If most of the fruits are about to ripe and the plants are about to be harvest, the plants can be sprayed with 1000 ml/L of ethephon aqueous solution for centralized marketing.

Improper handling will cause ethephon damage - the affected fruits have thin peels, soft flesh, white halo areas on the fruit surface, and sunken spots. The lesions are grey-brown, light brown, and have brown edges. The leaves are small and misshapen, and the leaflets are generally twisted upward.

5. Application of ethephon on watermelon.
When the watermelon has grown to a mature stage, use a gauze dipped in a 200-300 ml/L ethephon aqueous solution to wipe the skin of the melon.    The melon can mature 5-7 days earlier.The soluble solids in the juice increase by 1-3%, increasing the sugar content and sweetness. When watermelon is damaged by ethephon, the pulp will be dark red and have an odor.
Spray watermelons with 100-300 mg/kg ethephon solution on already grown watermelons, which can mature 5-7 days earlier, increase soluble solids by 1%-3%, increase the sweetness of watermelons, promote seed maturation, and reduce white-seeded melons.

6. Application of ethephon on cucumber.
Spraying 200-300 ml/L ethephon aqueous solution at the second-leaf stage of cucumber, and spraying again every other week, can effectively increase the female flower establishment rate and increase the production of cucumbers in the early stage.However, if the concentration is too high, the growth of seedlings will be stagnated, flowers will be topping or stiff seedlings will form.

7. Application of ethephon on zucchini.
Spraying 100-200 ml/L ethephon aqueous solution when there are 2-3 true leaves of zucchini can effectively increase the fruit setting rate of female flowers.
However, improper use can cause phytotoxicity, resulting in reduced production or even cessation of production.
Pumpkin can be treated according to the instructions of zucchini.Foliage spraying at the 3-4 leaf stage can greatly increase the production of female flowers, inhibit the development of male flowers, and increase production , especially early-ripe production. However, treatment effects vary depending on the species.

8. Application of ethephon on flowers.
Spraying chrysanthemum stems and leaves with a concentration of 1000 ml/liter ethephon aqueous solution can effectively inhibit the elongation of chrysanthemum internode and flower bud development.

9.Application of ethephon on ginger .
Soaking ginger seeds with ethephon before sowing can obviously promote the germination of ginger, which is reflected in the fast germination speed and high emergence rate.The number of sprouts on each piece of ginger increases from 1 bud to 2 buds or 3 buds per piece.When using ethephon to soak seeds, the concentration should be strictly controlled.The appropriate concentration is 250-500 mg/kg, which can promote germination, increase branching, and increase rhizome production.




Precautions when using ethephon
1.  Ethephon decomposes rapidly when encountering alkaline substances.  It is taboo to mix it with alkaline pesticides or dilute it with highly alkaline water.  The medicinal solution should be prepared and used as needed.  No re-spraying or leaking spray.

2.  Ethephon is suitable for use in dry weather.  Additional spraying is required in case of rain.  The best temperature during application is 16-32°C.  When the temperature is lower than 20°C, the concentration should be appropriately increased.

If there is drought, insufficient fertility or other reasons when the plants grow short, the concentration should be reduced and a plot test should be conducted;  on the contrary, if the soil fertility is too high, there is too much rain, the temperature is low, and the plants cannot mature normally, the concentration should be increased appropriately.  Use concentration.  Harvest in time after using ethephon to avoid overripe fruits.

3.  Ethephon is highly acidic and can corrode metal, utensils, skin and clothing.  You should wear gloves and glasses when working, and clean the spray equipment immediately after the operation.  If the liquid comes into contact with the skin, rinse immediately with water and soap;  if it splashes into the eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical treatment if necessary.
