I. Mechanism of Action
Inhibition of basal internode elongation:Mepiquat chloride inhibits gibberellin biosynthesis, thereby hindering the longitudinal elongation of rice cells and shortening basal internodes. This results in sturdier stems and significantly reduces the risk of lodging.

Promotion of productive tillering and yield increase:Mepiquat chloride regulates nutrient distribution, reducing the waste of nutrients on unproductive growth and promoting nutrient translocation to the panicles. It increases the proportion of productive tillers and the 1,000-grain weight, achieving both lodging resistance and higher yields.

II. Key Points for Mepiquat Chloride Application on Rice
Timing of application: Application is recommended one week prior to the jointing stage; it may also be applied during the flowering stage at compliant dosage rates.
Environmental conditions:Apply on sunny evenings or overcast days. If rainfall occurs within 3–6 hours after application, a follow-up application is required. Do not apply during windy weather.
