Mepiquat chloride is a very good agent for controlling plant excessive growth

1. Functional features of Mepiquat chloride:
Mepiquat chloride is a new plant growth regulator that can be use for a variety of crops and exerts multiple effects. It can promote plant development, advance flowering, prevent shedding, increase yield, enhance chlorophyll synthesis, and inhibit the elongation of main stems and fruit branches.  Spraying according to the dosage and different growth stages of plants can regulate plant growth, make plants solid and resistant to lodging, improve color and increase yield.  It is a plant growth regulator that is antagonistic to gibberellins and is use on cotton and other plants.

Effects of Mepiquat chloride:
Mepiquat chloride has a retarding effect on plant vegetative growth.  Mepiquat chloride can be absorb through plant leaves and roots and transmitt to the whole plant.
It can reduce the activity of gibberellins in the plant, thereby inhibiting cell elongation and terminal bud growth.  It weakens and controls the vertical and horizontal growth of the plant, shortening the plant internodes, compacting the plant shape, darkening the leaf color, reducing the leaf area, and enhancing the synthesis of chlorophyll, which can prevent the plant from growing vigorously and delay the closure of rows.  Mepiquat chloride can improve the stability of cell membranes and increase plant stress resistance.

Mepiquat chloride is widely use on cotton. It can effectively prevent cotton from growing wildly, control plant compactness, reduce boll drop, promote maturity, and increase cotton yield.  It can promote root development, make leaves green, thicken to prevent leggy growth, resist lodging, increase boll formation rate, increase pre-frost flowers, and improve cotton grade.  At the same time, it makes the plant compact, greatly reduces superfluous buds, and saves pruning labor.

In addition, Mepiquat chloride can prevent lodging when used in winter wheat;
when use on apples, it can increase calcium ion absorption and reduce pitting disease;
when used on citrus, it can increase sugar content;
when used on ornamental plants, it can inhibit plant growth, make the plants solid, resist lodging and improve Color;
when use on tomatoes, melons and beans to increase yield and ripen earlier.

2. Mepiquat chloride suitable for crops:
(1) Use Mepiquat chloride on corn.
During the bell mouth stage, spray 50 kg of 25% aqueous solution 5000 times per acre to increase the seed setting rate.

(2) Use Mepiquat chloride on sweet potatoes.
In the early stages of potato formation, spraying 40 kg of 25% aqueous solution 5000 times per acre can promote root hypertrophy.

(3) Use Mepiquat chloride on peanuts.
During the needle setting period and the early stage of pod formation, use 20-40 ml of 25% water per acre  and spray 50 kg of water to increase root activity, increase pod weight and improve quality.

(4) Use Mepiquat chloride on tomatoes.
 6 to 7 days before transplanting and during the initial flowering period, spray 25% aqueous solution 2500 times once each to promote early flowering, multiple fruits, and early maturity.

(5) Use Mepiquat chloride on cucumbers and watermelons.
During the initial flowering and melon-bearing stages, spray 25% aqueous solution 2500 times once each to promote early flowering, more melons, and early harvest.

(6) Use Mepiquat chloride on garlic and onions.
Spraying 25% aqueous solution 1670-2500 times before harvest can delay bulb sprouting and extend storage time.

(7) Use Mepiquat chloride on apples.
From flowering to the fruit expansion stage, pear fruit expansion stage, and grape flowering stage, spraying 25% aqueous solution 1670 to 2500 times can increase the fruit setting rate and yield.
During the expansion stage of grape berries, spraying the secondary shoots and leaves with 160 to 500 times of liquid can significantly inhibit the growth of secondary shoots, concentrate nutrients into the fruit, increase the sugar content of the fruit, and cause early ripen.

(8) Use Mepiquat chloride on wheat.
Before sowing, use 40 mg of 25% water agent per 100 kg of seeds and 6-8 kg of water for seed dressing to increase roots and resist cold. At the jointing stage, use 20 ml per mu and spray 50 kg of water to have an anti-lodging effect. During the flowering period, use 20-30 ml per acre  and spray 50 kg of water to increase the thousand grain weight.

Summary: Mepiquat chloride is a growth regulator, but its greatest function is as a plant growth retardant. Its purpose is to coordinate the relationship between vegetative growth and reproductive growth of plants to avoid excessive growth, so that the quality and yield of crop production will be guaranteed.

 Some of its mechanisms of action and actual growth regulation performance are also introduce in detail above. The main purpose of talking about this is to help growers increase yields. Many people also have some misunderstandings about growth regulators, which also serves the purpose of popularizing science.
