Thidiazuron promotes the regulation of ethylene, auxin, and cytokinin, causing cotton leaves to naturally fall off and accelerating boll maturation. Its defoliation effect is superior to ethephon, but its ripening effect is less pronounced. When used appropriately, it can achieve earlier maturity, increase the proportion of pre-frost flowers, increase fiber length, improve lint content, and reduce boll rot and pest damage.
Influencing Factors
Temperature: The temperature must remain stable above 20°C for 10 days after application, with the lowest temperature not falling below 12°C. Application is recommended before September 5th in northern Xinjiang and before September 15th in southern Xinjiang.
Humidity: Water should be withheld for at least 10 days before application. The soil moisture content should be ≤ 20%, and the relative humidity should be ≤ 65%.
Spraying Technique: The defoliant, adjuvant, and ethephon should be diluted and thoroughly mixed to avoid missed applications or repeated applications.
Precautions: If the optimal application time is missed, re-spray on a stable temperature (≥12°C) to avoid excessive dosage, which may result in "withered but not falling" plants.
