Indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) is a synthetic auxin-type plant growth regulator. Its primary function is to potently induce the formation of adventitious roots and fine lateral roots. Far more stable than natural auxins, it is the most widely used professional rooting regulator in agricultural production.

Core Root-Promoting Efficacy of Indole-3-Butyric Acid (IBA)
IBA stimulates rapid cell division at the base of cuttings, triggering the emergence of a dense network of adventitious roots. This results in a root system that is both abundant and compact, significantly enhancing the plant's capacity to absorb water and nutrients.

A classic rooting combination involves pairing IBA with 1-naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA): NAA promotes the downward growth of primary (tap) roots, while IBA encourages the proliferation of fine lateral roots. This creates a multi-dimensional root architecture—featuring deep primary roots and an extensive network of fibrous roots—which effectively doubles the rooting performance.

When used for root dipping or soil drenching during the transplanting of nursery stock, strawberries, grapes, and other crops, IBA can substantially shorten the recovery period (transplant shock phase) and significantly increase survival rates.
