Avocado cultivation is concentrated globally, with Mexico, Colombia, and Peru being the leading producers. Mexico consistently ranks as the world's top avocado producer, accounting for approximately 30% of global production in 2023.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations' "Agricultural Outlook 2021-2030" report predicts that avocados will surpass mangoes and pineapples to become the most traded tropical fruit by 2030. It also predicts that Mexican avocado production will increase by an average of 5.2% annually over the next decade, reaching a 63% share of global exports by 2030.

The United States is the world's largest avocado importer, primarily from Mexico. According to Fox News, for every four avocados exported from Mexico, three end up on American plates.

Avocados are primarily grown and produced in three Mexican states: Michoacán, Jalisco, and Nayarit. Michoacán borders the Pacific Ocean to the west and mountainous terrain to the east. The terrain, with its elevation rising in the east and falling in the west, creates a diverse climate. Coastal areas are hot and dry, with an average annual temperature of 29°C. The region's well-developed water system provides abundant water, perfectly meeting the growing needs of avocados. Michoacán has become Mexico's largest avocado producer and the only state authorized to export avocados to the United States.

In Uruapan, Michoacán, Mexico's avocado hub, avocados cost $1.40 per kilogram at the farm gate, while in American supermarkets, they sell for $1.30 each. Americans consume three times as many avocados as they did 20 years ago, and the strong purchasing power of the US market has made avocados a pillar industry in the state. The New York Times estimates that to meet the exploding demand, the area of avocado trees in Michoacán could increase by more than 80% by 2050.

Commonly used plant growth regulators in avocado cultivation include Gibberellic Acid (GA3), Auxins (IAA/NAA), Cytokinins (CTK), Abscisic Acid (ABA), and Chlormequat Chloride (CCC)/Paclobutrazol. For inquiries, please contact admin@agriplantgrowth.com.
