Effects of 6-BA and Brassinolide Application on Watermelons
Application method for Brassinolide and 6-BA on watermelons:
Soak de-hulled seedless watermelon seeds in either a 150 mg/L 6-BA solution or a 4,000-fold diluted natural brassinosteroid solution for 8 hours; incubate at a constant temperature of 32°C for germination, and then raise the seedlings in a seedbed.
6-Benzylaminopurine (6-BA) exhibits high cytokinin activity; consequently, it is widely used in agriculture and horticulture throughout the crop lifecycle, from germination to harvest. Physiological effects unique to cytokinins like 6-BA—which are unmatched or surpassed by other plant hormones—include promoting cell division, inducing the differentiation of undifferentiated tissues, facilitating the accumulation of substances within the organism, stimulating lateral bud formation, and delaying senescence.

Brassinolide is a natural plant hormone widely distributed in plant organs such as pollen, seeds, stems, and leaves. Because its physiological activity far exceeds that of the five previously known hormone classes, it has been internationally acclaimed as the "sixth hormone" and is classified as a novel, broad-spectrum plant growth regulator. Among the various isomers, epi-brassinolide demonstrates a superior crop yield-enhancing effect compared to other brassinosteroid forms. Its 0.01% aqueous formulation has undergone years of field efficacy trials and large-scale agricultural promotion, yielding significant results.

Effects of Brassinolide and 6-BA application on watermelons:
Both cytokinins and natural brassinosteroids significantly improve the germination rate and vigor index of seedless watermelons. Specifically, cytokinin treatment increased the germination rate and vigor index by 7.35% and 8% respectively, while natural brassinosteroid treatment increased them by 4.5% and 4.6% respectively. Compared to the control, both treatments resulted in increases of over 17% in the rate of seedless watermelon seedling emergence and over 20% in the number of normal seedlings.
